Kuchu & Cutu Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2 November 2026
The short version: we don't collect anything. What you create in Kuchu & Cutu lives on your devices and in your own iCloud, shared only with the partner you invite.
What the app stores
Your names, start date, moods, notes, doodles, answers, countdowns, bucket list, date-idea swipes, game moves, the photos you add to Memories, and (only if you turn it on) an approximate location. It is stored on your device and in a private iCloud database that belongs to you.
Sharing with your partner
When you invite your partner, the app uses Apple's CloudKit sharing so the two of you can read and write the same shared space in iCloud. Only the person who accepts your invite can join; after they do, the invite link stops working for anyone else. You can unpair at any time.
What we (the developer) can see
Nothing you create. We have no accounts and include no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. CloudKit data in your iCloud is not visible to us. Apple's handling of iCloud data is described in Apple's privacy policy.
Calls and walkie-talkie
Calls ring through Apple's CallKit and walkie-talkie messages use Apple's Push to Talk, so your partner's phone can ring or play your voice even when it's locked. To make that happen, your partner's app shares its push addresses with yours inside your shared iCloud space, and our small relay on Cloudflare asks Apple to deliver the call or message. Call and walkie audio passes through the relay in real time and is never recorded or stored. If your partner's phone needs a moment to wake up for a walkie message, the relay holds that message in memory for at most two minutes until it's delivered, then discards it; it's never written to disk. The microphone is used only during a call or while you hold the talk button. If your partner can't be reached, a walkie message is saved as an audio clip in your shared iCloud space instead.
Chat
Your private chat is stored in your shared iCloud space, like everything else. While you're both in the app, messages and "typing…" also pass through our relay in real time so they appear instantly; the relay never stores them. Each new message triggers a push notification to your partner through our relay and Apple: by default it includes a short preview of the message, which is forwarded and never stored. You can turn previews off in Settings, and the notification then just says "New message". On your phone, chat older than 30 days isn't kept locally; it loads from your iCloud when you scroll back and is removed from the phone again after 24 hours.
Kuchu in your chat (optional). Writing helpers (rewrite, translate, drafts) send only the text you typed to Anthropic's Claude via our relay. Features that read your recent chat (asking @Kuchu, "Catch me up", hosted games, smart replies) work only if both of you turned on "Kuchu knows us", and include each person's messages only if that person allows "Our chat". On newer iPhones, smart replies come from Apple's on-device model instead. Voice-note transcripts are made on your phone by Apple's on-device speech recognition and never leave it.
Location
Optional and off by default. If you turn on distance, the app asks for "while using" location with reduced accuracy, rounds it to about 1 km, and shares only that and your city name with your partner. It updates only when you tap Update. It never runs in the background.
Photos
You pick photos with the system photo picker; the app does not get access to your library. Picked photos are stored in your shared iCloud space.
Kuchu AI (optional)
Kuchu AI is off until you agree to it. When you use one of its tools, the text you type on that screen is sent through our relay to Anthropic's Claude to write the reply. We don't store it. Anthropic processes it under its API terms and may keep it for a limited time for safety monitoring; it is not used to train their models.
"Kuchu knows us" (optional, needs both of you). If both partners turn on "Let Kuchu AI use our data", personalised features (weekly recap, recommendations, insights, custom quizzes, cute creations, Ask Kuchu) send a compact summary of your shared app activity with the request, built on your phone. Each partner chooses which of their own things may be included: moods, daily answers, check-ins, notes and letters, plans and lists, memory captions and dates (never photos), and game stats. Your location is never included. The summary goes to Anthropic in the same way and isn't stored by us. Results are saved in your shared iCloud space so you both see them. Either partner can turn it off at any time, which stops it immediately.
On devices with Apple Intelligence, some date ideas may instead come from Apple's on-device model.
Your controls
Settings → Export data gives you everything you've created. Settings → Delete all data removes it from your device and your iCloud. Deleting the app removes local data; you can also manage iCloud data in the Settings app.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
